Treatments To Unclog Ears

Within the ear there is a narrow tube, which is known as the eustachian tube. This tube can become clogged with wax or water that has become trapped within the ear. People with sinus infections may experience clogged ears due to mucus or puss not being able to drain effectively from this tube. Clogged ears can hinder hearing and balance, and, if gone untreated, the clog can become quite painful. Speak with your physician before starting any treatment to unclog your ears.

Hydrogen Peroxide and Water

To perform this remedy, place one teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide and an equal amount of water in a small cup. After you have mixed these ingredients together, place two towels on the floor. Lie on the floor with your head resting on the towels and gently pour the hydrogen peroxide and water solution into your clogged ear.

You will hear the peroxide begin to bubble within your ear canal, which may cause your ear to feel warm. Allow the solution to rest within the ear canal for five minutes before tilting your head to the opposite side so the solution and wax are able to drain. If necessary, repeat this remedy. If you feel an excess amount of pain when performing this remedy, immediately drain the solution and visit your physician because you may have an ear infection.

Steam Treatment

This treatment utilizes steam to loosen wax and relieve pressure that is associated with a sinus infection. To perform this remedy, bring two quarts of water to a rolling boil. After the water produces steam, remove it from the stove and pour it into a heat-safe container. With a towel draping over your head, lean over the steam and tilt your head so the clogged ear is directly above the rising steam. Rest in this position for 10 minutes before removing the towel and pouring out the water; repeat this remedy two times per day until the wax has emerged from the ear canal.

Olive Oil Treatment

When olive oil is poured gently into the ear, it lubricates the canal and loosens any wax that may be clogging the eustachian tube. Pour two teaspoons of pure olive oil into a microwave-safe container and heat it for five seconds. Make sure that the oil is only warm and not hot. Lie on the floor with a towel under your head. Using an eyedropper; insert a small amount of olive oil directly into your clogged ear canal. Allow the olive oil to rest within your ear for three minutes before tilting your head to the opposite side to drain the oil and wax out of your ear.
