Little League Football Grants
Football might be the most expensive sport in the country to participate in because of the cost of insurance and equipment, not to mention the size of each team's roster. But parents and youth football organizers have plenty of opportunities to find grants to help support teams and leagues.
Pop Warner Grants
Founded in 1929, Pop Warner is one of the oldest, largest and most established youth football organizations in the country. Almost 400,000 kids ages 5 to 16 are involved in Pop Warner programs. The organization, through partnerships with the National Football League, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (the governing body for major college football), Team Cheer and many national equipment manufacturers (Spaulding, Bike, Russell and Schutt Sports) to help provide uniforms, equipment and opportunities to youth programs. Pop Warner also provides grants for successful teams to travel to national tournaments in Florida.
NFL Grants
The NFL Youth Football Fund was created in 1998 as a partnership between the NFL and the NFL Players Association to support youth and high school football in the United States. Grants are available to help build and maintain playing fields for youth football and supply equipment and health and safety education to youth programs. In addition, all NFL teams support youth football programs in their respective cities through matching grant programs, and NFL players can make donations through a matching grant program.
USA Football grants
USA Football is the official youth development program of the NFL and the NFL Players Association. Since 2002, the organization has supported youth football programs and high school football teams. Each year, USA Football awards more than $1 million in grants to help provide equipment to youth leagues, and it also provides financial assistance to help leagues perform background checks on prospective league volunteers to ensure the safety of kids in the leagues.
Good Sports grants
Based in Boston, Good Sports is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing participation in youth sports and recreation programs. One of the main ways it does that is providing grants that allow programs in underprivileged areas to buy the necessary equipment. Since 2003, Good Sports has provided more than $4 million worth of equipment, and nearly a quarter of a million kids have benefited from the program. Unlike other grant programs (like many of the Pop Warner grants as well as the NFL and USA Football programs), Good Sports accepts grant applications on a rolling basis throughout the year.
