A "DEW" error, caused by condensation, will render your JVC camcorder non-operational.
A condensation or "dew" error may occur when moving your JVC camcorder from a cold environment to a warm one. Other possible causes for the error include placing the camcorder in front of an air conditioning unit or allowing the condensation sensor to become dirty. The error occurs as a warning that the device, tape or recording drive may become damaged if you continue to use it in a moist environment. The error also causes the camcorder to stop functioning. To fix the condensation error, you'll need to clean and dry the sensor, then reset the device.
Instructions
1. Press the "Eject" button, if necessary, then remove any tape or drive from the bay. Leave the tape/drive bay open and turn the camcorder off.
2. Remove the battery pack from the JVC camcorder and disconnect the device from any external power sources.
3. Locate the drive motor in the tape/drive bay, which is silver and has an orange plastic piece on it. Directly to the right of the drive motor is a black square. This black square is the condensation sensor.
4. Dip one end of the cotton swab into the glass cleaning solution. Gently wipe the condensation sensor with the tip of the swab to clean it of any contaminants. Allow the unit to dry, with the tape/drive bay open, for 10 minutes.
5. Place the battery pack back into the JVC camcorder or reconnect the power cable to the device, then turn the device on by pressing the "POWER" button to reset the condensation sensor.
