Reset Kia After Battery Is Disconnected

Reset your Kia after disconnecting the battery by reprogramming your keyless entry remote.

Disconnecting the battery on your Kia sometimes deprograms the keyless entry remote, the vehicle alarm and the internal computer in the vehicle. To reset each of these functions after reconnecting your Kia's battery, you need to reprogram your keyless entry remote control, which will reset the rest of the vehicle. Reprogramming takes only a few minutes, and you can do it yourself without having to call a professional.

Instructions

1. Open the hood and locate the Diagnostics connector behind your Kia's battery. Open the cover on the diagnostics port and connect a jumper wire to the connector inside the port marked 6.

2. Connect the other end of the jumper wire to the positive terminal on the battery.

3. Enter your Kia and place the key in the ignition, turning it as far as it will go without starting the engine.

4. Push the lock button on your key fob for three seconds, until the lights on your dashboard blink. Your key has been reprogrammed, and your alarm and computer have been reset. Turn your Kia off, remove the jumper wires and close the hood.
