If your Delta faucet drips constantly, chances are the seats and springs inside the faucet are loose, worn out or broken. Either way, they need replacing with brand new seat springs. To accomplish this, the dome cap is removed to gain access to the faucet head. This dome cap is the rounded, dome-shaped washer that resides just below the handle of the faucet. It takes about 10 minutes to remove this, and it only takes minimal knowledge and skill.
Instructions
1. Close the water valves below the faucet to stop the water flow. They are located inside the sink cabinet.
2. Loosen the handle set screw with an Allen wrench. It is located on the side of the lever-style faucet. If you have a round single-handle faucet, the set screw is underneath a cap on top of the faucet. Remove the cap by prying it up with a screwdriver, then loosen the screw.
3. Slide off the handle exposing the dome cap beneath it. If there is a smaller washer above the dome cap, loosen this by turning it to the left with a pair of needle nose pliers, or the tip of a screwdriver, and remove it. This is called the adjusting bit.
4. Attempt to remove the dome cap by turning it to the left by hand at first. If the dome cap does not budge, use a pair of channel grip pliers. First, lay a towel over the dome cap to prevent scratching, then close the pliers over the dome cap and apply light pressure. Push the pliers forward to loosen and remove the cap. Be careful not to squeeze too hard on the cap, as this may crush it.
