There are a few places you can turn for help around the holidays.
There are a couple of not-for-profit organizations in Houston that can help you provide for your children on Christmas. The local Toys for Tots chapter, along with the Houston Fire Department, both hold annual toy giveaways during the month of December. Contact both organizations to find out when the next giveaway is scheduled for. In some cases, you will need to provide information about your income and need for assistance. Both organizations collect new, unwrapped toys from members of the community in the months leading up to Christmas.
Instructions
1. Contact the local Toys for Tots chapter. This not-for-profit public charity holds a toy giveaway each year. As of 2011, the contact person is Sergeant Johnathon Mackin. He can be reached at 713-503-5141.
2. Download and fill out a toy request form from the chapter's Toys for Tots website. This form is only available in the months leading up to Christmas and can be downloaded if the chapter can accommodate new families in need. You will have to include your name and contact information, how many children live in your household and list what sort of state assistance you receive.
3. Attend the Houston Fire Department's annual toy distribution during the month of December. You don't need to sign up or register prior to the giveaway; all you have to do is show up. Toys are handed out on a first-come, first-served basis. You'll need to bring identification for yourself and every child you are picking toys up for. There is a limit of five children per family.
