Upgrade Satellite Radio In A Mercedes

SIRIUS satellite radio has provided more than 100 channels of programming since 2002, entertaining nearly 20 million subscribers worldwide as of January 2011. SIRIUS listeners can customize their experience by programming which channels they want in their normal rotation, as well as the ones they would like to keep at bay. While built-in tuners available in Mercedes-Benz vehicles do not have the ability to accept firmware upgrades without a total replacement, you can upgrade your detachable unit's software at any time, normally in less than an hour.

Instructions

1. Download the SIRIUS firmware update and save to your computer's desktop (see Resources). Click "Save," Save In," choose your desktop as the location to store the file, then click "Save" once again.

2. Insert your satellite radio receiver into your home docking station, then connect the docking station to your computer. Plug one end of the USB cable into the back of the docking station, and the other end into an available USB port on the side or back of your computer. The screen "Do Not Disconnect" appears on your radio receiver.

3. Double-click the "Firmware Update" client file that you saved onto your desktop, and click "Start" to begin the upgrade process. Disconnect your docking station when you see the "OK to Disconnect" screen appear, then reboot your satellite radio receiver.

4. Place the receiver back into your Mercedes.
