Set Up Cingular Sms

Setting up your Cingular mobile phone to receive SMS messages, otherwise known as text messages, will enable you to stay in contact with your friends and family. SMS messages are short messages, usually no more than 160 characters long. In the event that you cannot talk or do not want to talk in public, opting to send an SMS message is more efficient. Setting up SMS messages is easily done with a Cingular SMS capable phone.


Instructions

1. Contact AT&T's customer service department at 1-800-331-0500 or by dialing 611 from your Cingular phone. Inform the representative that you would like to add SMS messaging to your mobile phone plan.


2. Provide the customer service representative with your account number, pass code (if applicable) and your name.


3. Wait for the representative to add the feature to your account. You may be informed to restart your phone to allow the network to update. If this is the case, follow the instructions given by the representative.

4. Visit the AT&T wireless web page and register for an account, and then log into the account.








5. Navigate to the "Manage Features" tab, and then select the SMS messaging plan that you want to add to your Cingular account, followed by clicking the "Next" button.


6. Select "Today's Date" from the drop-down menu, to have your feature setup for use immediately, and then click the "Next" button.


7. Confirm your decision, and then click "Submit."


8. Restart your phone to allow the network to reset and the changes to become active on your device.
