Digital cameras store photos on an SD card.
Kodak is a large and well-known manufacturer of cameras, including digital cameras. Kodak also manufactures SD cards, small internal devices that stores the photos on a digital camera. These cards measure about one inch by one inch and are 1/8 inch thick. SD cards are available in various storage capacities.
2GB Card
The 2GB SD card from Kodak is its standard card. Kodak states that this card can be used in cameras, camcorders and MP3 players. For camcorders, the capture rate is 30 frames per second. For still cameras, the amount of pictures depends on the resolution of the camera. For a 10 megapixel camera, the trade group SD Association estimates that about 770 pictures can be stored (see reference 2). For movies in a normal resolution mode, it can store about 30 minutes. For music, it can store about 34 hours of MP3-formatted music.
4GB SDHC Card
The SDHC card is a an upgrade from the standard SD card. This card has a 4GB storage capacity. It can store about 60 minutes of video. Because it is an SDHC, data transfer is faster than a normal SD card. This makes it ideal for video applications. Kodak states that this card is made only for devices that are SDHC-enabled. It will not work in devices that are made for SD only.
16 GB High-Speed SDHC Card
This is Kodak's top-of-the-line card. This card has a 16GB storage capacity, and it has the highest speed capabilities. It can store about 240 minutes of video. This card should be used in camcorders that have high-definition (HD) capabilities. As with other SDHC cards, it is not compatible with devices that use SD-only cards.
Speed Ratings
Data transfer speed is specified on all Kodak cards. The speed rating is a number inside a large "C," and it looks similar to a copyright symbol. A number inside a "U" is an ultra-high-speed card, which Kodak, as of October 2010, does not yet manufacture. The SD association recommends a "2" for general applications. Speed ratings of "4" to "10" are used for full HD recording.
