Diy Glass Cb Antenna

Glass-mount Citizen Band radio antennas have the advantage of a no holes installation. The CB signal is sent through the glass between the antenna mast on the outside of the window, and a coupling box on the inside. Adhesive tape is used to mount the two parts and an included cable is then routed to the CB radio from the coupling box. Ordinarily, CB radio technology requires a ground-plane, usually provided by the vehicles sheet-metal. However, glass-mount CB antennas have built-in ground planes. Mounting a glass-mount CB antenna is a DIY project.

Instructions

1. Wipe both sides of the glass with the window cleaner and dry the glass. Then heat the antenna base tape with the hair dryer for a couple of minutes, then remove the backing and press the tape onto the glass. The tape will stick immediately, so be sure you've got it where you want it. The mast should be 12-15 inches above the roof line when attached.

2. Heat the tape on the coupling unit and stick it to the inside of the window so that its position matches the base on the outside. Make sure the cable connector points in the right direction -- where you want to route the cable.

3. Leave the installation for 12 hours and then attach the mast by screwing it to the base, or attaching it with the screw and allen key. Tighten it so that it's vertical. Apply a little silicon to the outside edge of the tape so water won't penetrate the seal.

4. Attach the cable to the coupler box by screwing it on and then route the cable to the CB radio's PL-259 connector.
