Instructions For Fireplace Door Decoration

Fireplace doors are easy to decorate as long as you follow safety protocols.

Fireplace doors are often made of bare metal, which adds little to the decor of your home. You must practice safe techniques to assure that your decorated fireplace door isn't a fire hazard in your home; otherwise, your creativity is the only limit when it comes to this decorating endeavor. From simple color variations to intricate designs, decorating your fireplace door provides your home with ornamental accents.

Instructions

1. Tape a sheet of old newspaper to the backside and outside of the fireplace door. This prevents paint from dripping or spraying into the fireplace during the project.

2. Hold a can of heat-resistant spray paint about 5 inches from the surface of the fireplace door. Spray a fine mist over the entire surface of the door to color the metal grating. Choose a color that corresponds with the colors featured in your home's decor scheme. Let it dry for about an hour.

3. Place a large stencil over the center of the closed fireplace door. Choose a stencil that corresponds with your decor. Butterflies, flowers and whimsical designs are useful ideas, but the decision is all your own.

4. Tape some newspaper around the stencil to protect the painted surface of the door surrounding it.

5. Hold a can of spray paint with a different color from the rest of the door about 5 inches from the surface of the stencil you have chosen. Lightly press on the can's nozzle to release a fine mist of the pigment over the stencil.

6. Switch to a different color of heat-resistant spray paint and repeat step 6 to create variations in color with the stencil design.

7. Let the paint dry for about an hour before removing the newspaper from the entire fireplace area.
