Troubleshoot A Sony Str De697

The Sony STR-DE697 is a 7.1 AV receiver that can connect all of your audio and video components to one device. The system also features support for Dolby Digital and DTS sound processing for a full surround sound experience. If you having problems with the sound or other issues with the system, troubleshoot it to diagnose the problem.

Instructions

1. Check the power connection. Make sure that the power adapter is securely inserted into a wall outlet and that the wall outlet is functional.

2. Check the speaker connections to make sure that they are all inserted securely and into the proper port. The positive and negative terminal for the speaker wire must be securely inserted into each speaker, as well as each speaker port on the back of the receiver. An improper connection or a mixed up connection will cause the speaker to not work.

3. Check that your components are securely connected. If you are having trouble with one device and not the other, make sure that the left and right audio cables are properly inserted into the AV receiver.

4. Make sure the Input Mode for the connected device corresponds with the type of connection you are using. If the device is connected via a red and white RCA audio cable, the Input Mode must be set to "ANALOG." If you are using a coaxial digital cable, set the Input Mode to "COAX IN." If you are using an optical digital cable, set the Input Mode to "OPT IN."

5. Set the system to an audio setting that is compatible with your source media. If the disc or DVD you are trying to play does not support Dolby Digital or DTS, then use another setting, such as "Stereo."
