Installing A Direct Tv Slimline

Choosing the Satelite Location

Find an area on your roof that is unobstructed to the south (in the U.S.) by buildings or trees. Read the instructions completely to understand installation and operation of your Direct TV Slimline dish.

Attaching the Dish

Screw the base of the satellite down. Connect and adjust the mast, using a level to make certain it is vertically level. Screw the the coaxial cable and ground cable onto the receiver end and feed them down the hollow arm and mast. Screw on the dish head. Screw on the dish receiver arm and the receiver onto the end of the arm.

Running the Cable

Use wire staples nails (white plastic spacer with two nails on the outside) every foot to fasten the cables to the roof. Run them down the wall and to the wall near the television that this satellite will be connected to.

Connecting to the Direct TV Receiver

Wrap the ground wire around a steel rod. Hammer the rod into the ground. Drill a hole the size of the coaxial cable through the side of your house. Feed the cable through the wall. Connect the cable to the back of your Direct TV receiver. Apply silicon caulk around the cable on the siding of your house to seal out moisture.

Get a Signal

Turn on your TV and Direct TV receiver. Use your remote to navigate through the welcome screen and to the "Test Signal" screen. Have a friend get on the roof while you monitor the signal strength screen. Have your friend unscrew the elevation and azimuth adjustment screws on the neck on the mast (elevation is the up/down angle of the dish and the azimuth is side to side angle of the dish). Adjust the angle to the suggested coordinates given on the screen after inputting your zip code. Tighten the screws once the signal obtained.
