A Clean A Clogged Print Head

Your computer tells the print head where to precisely lay down ink from the cartidges.

A common problem with ink jet printers is a clogged or dirty print head. A print head is the movable part of a printer that puts the ink onto the paper. The ink travels from the ink cartridge and drips into the print head. There are two ways to clean a clogged print head: use a computer software program, or manually clean the print head.

Instructions

Clean Your Print Head Using Software

1. Access your printer software program maintenance options.

2. Run the print head or cartridge cleaning program. This is the preferred method of cleaning the print head.

3. Repeat the software-guided cleaning process multiple times if needed to fully clean your print head.

Manually Clean Your Print Head

4. Remove the ink cartridges from your printer.

5. Locate the print head within your printer. Find it below the location where your ink cartridges were located.

6. Dip a clean cotton swap in isopropyl alcohol and gently rub it on your print head to clean away any dried ink buildup.

7. Reinstall your ink cartridges and run a test page to verify that the print head is clean.
