Convert A Mini Dv To Dvd With Software

Transferring Mini-DV footage to DVD may result in a loss of video quality.

The Mini-DV video format is a powerful medium for capturing professional and amateur footage at a relatively low cost. However, if you would like to showcase your work to others, gathering around a camera viewfinder--one of the few options for displaying video in this format--may not be ideal due to its small screen and low-fidelity audio speakers. You can convert your Mini-DV footage to DVD with software so that you have an easily accessible, widely used media format that others can view on their home entertainment systems.

Instructions

1. Launch your video conversion software and create a new project file for your Mini-DV to DVD transfer.

2. Connect the FireWire cord from your camera to the computer's FireWire port. Turn the camera on and insert the Mini-DV tape. Rewind the tape to its starting point.

3. Capture the Mini-DV footage from your camera using your conversion software. You will need to specify a place on your computer's hard drive to store the captured footage. Do not fast-forward, rewind or touch the camera as the conversion software captures the footage.

4. Save the project file before starting the conversion process.

5. Insert a blank DVD disc into your computer's DVD burner. Exit out of any windows that may pop up asking you what you would like to do with the disc.

6. Click the button in your conversion software that creates a DVD from the captured footage. Some conversion tools may give you the option to create a DVD menu for footage organization, which may be helpful when navigating the disc in the future.

7. Close the DVD disc so that no other data can be written to the media. Closing the disc also makes it readable on DVD players.

8. Test the disc in a home DVD player, or by removing the disc from your computer and reinserting it back into the drive.
