Record Digital Tv Shows

As of June, 2009, all U.S. television stations will broadcast in digital instead of analog. Digital signals are preferable to analog because they are more compact, freeing up room on the bandwidth for emergency broadcast signals and other important functions. If you have a digital-ready TV and/or receive digital signals from a cable or satellite service, you shouldn't have any problems recording shows the way you normally do. Simply program the time and channel into your VCR or DVR. For those without digital cable services--who use a digital converter to get signals on their analog TV--the process is a little more complex. Here's record digital TV shows on an analog TV.

Instructions

1. Connect your antenna to a digital converter box by attaching it to the "In" or "In From Antenna" coaxial jack on the back of the box.

2. Connect one end of a coaxial cable to the "Out" or "Out to TV" jack on your converter box. Connect the other end to the "In From Antenna" jack on the back of the VCR. (This step may throw some people because of the converter box's "Out to TV" label. Despite what it says, you need to connect it to the VCR.)

3. Link the VCR to the TV by attaching another coaxial cable from the "Out to TV" jack on the VCR to the "In From Antenna" jack on the TV.

4. Turn on all three devices and set the TV and VCR to receive signals from the digital converter box (usually by setting them both to channel 3 or 4). Check the channels on the digital converter to make sure they are coming in clearly.

5. Place a VHS tape in the VCR and set the VCR to record at whatever time your show airs. When setting the channel on the VCR, do NOT set the channel carrying the show. Instead, set it to channel 3 or 4: the same channel used to connect to the digital converter.

6. Set the digital converter to whatever station is carrying the show you want to watch. If it has a time function, program it to turn on when the show airs. If it doesn't, simply leave it on and tuned to the show's station.

7. After the show airs, rewind the tape and watch it when you're ready.
