Sd Card Data Recovery

Laptop with SD card reader.

As with any other storage device, SD cards come with their own set of errors. One common error is the "Format SD card" message that you get when inserting the card into your PC. At times, the card may work fine, but if any surface scratch appears, you may get this error. In order to use the SD card you must click "OK." You may notice that your files have been deleted afterwards. If this happens, don't worry, you will be able to recover your files.

What Are SD Cards Used For?

SD cards are used to store multimedia, documents and program files. You can purchase them in storage sizes from 512MB to 32GB, and in three sizes: standard, micro and mini. Some electronic devices such as digital cameras, camcorders or cell phones may already come equipped with SD cards. SD cards are not programmed to be used only on one type of electronic media, so you can take an SD card from a camera and use the same card in a computer or cell phone. You can also save media from one device and transfer that media to another device.

SD Card Purchase Information

SD card recovery programs as of 2010, are only available for download online or for purchase over the Internet. You have to download the trial version of the recovery program to see if it will work to restore your files. Next, you will have to purchase and install the full version of the program to the computer that has the SD card reader.

How Do SD Recovery Programs Work?

Each time you save a file to your SD card, an invisible file or ghost file is saved to your SD card at the same time. When you open your SD card, you will only be able to see the files that you saved--you will not be able to see the ghosts files that are written into the SD card. SD card recovery programs work by searching for these hidden files to restore the originals.

What Files Can Be Recovered From an SD Card?

Any file that was saved to an SD card can be recovered using an SD card recovery program. No matter the size of the file or file type, the SD recovery program will be able to restore it. However, if you have saved files to your SD card after the others disappeared you will not be able to recover the deleted files.

Recover SD Cards

Insert the SD card into the SD card reader. Next, launch the recovery software and follow the prompts in order to recover your deleted files. Once the files are recovered, save them to a location of your choosing.
