What Is an Anesthesia Technician's Job Description?
Anesthesia technicians provide patient care in health environments such as hospital operating rooms, private practice settings and clinics. These health care professionals work under the direct supervision of nurse anesthetists and anesthesiologists.
Basic Duties
Anesthesia technicians are responsible for assembling, cleaning and disinfecting anesthesia equipment. Some technicians assists with preparing anesthesia for surgical patients.
Specialized Duties
Anesthesia technicians may monitor operation equipment supplies during operations. Technicians may stock anesthesia supplies, such as emergency airway bags.
Qualifications
Minimum education includes a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma with additional medical training. Training can include infection control, operating medical equipment and basic life support.
Working Environment
Anesthesia technicians work irregular hours, including nights, holidays and weekends based on work assignments. The technicians work in sterile environments in hospital operating rooms, private practice settings and clinics.
