Lower a Charter Cable Bill
Commercials about books and programs claiming to teach you save money and become wealthy are all over television every day, but the television channels you are watching could be your key to saving money every month. Lowering your Charter cable bill is one of the easiest ways you can cut your monthly expenses and save money. Most of the time, you can lower your Charter bill by simply doing a little bit of research and making a 10 to 15 minute phone call.
Instructions
1. Consider what services you really need. The easiest way to lower your Charter bill is to cut back on services you do not use. Cancel movie channels you rarely watch or return an extra box on a television that is rarely used. If you use your cell phone the majority of the time, consider canceling your Charter home phone service if you have it.
2. Call Charter at (888) 438-2427 to inquire about deals and bundle services in your local area. If you have had Charter for a long time, you may be paying a higher price than what they currently offer for new customers. Ask about bundle packages if you use more than one Charter service, such as television, Internet and telephone.
3. Research competitors in your area, including other cable and satellite providers. Check your local newspaper and competitor websites for information on current pricing and deals. Call Charter and politely explain the pricing of competitors and ask if they can offer you a similar price. Explain that your bill is running too high and you are looking for a better deal. Charter will often offer you a deal or a fixed amount off your monthly bill to retain your business.
4. Ask Charter to cancel your service at the end of your billing cycle if they cannot offer you a similar or better price than their competitors. Asking to cancel your service at the end of your billing cycle gives you an opportunity to call and ask for your service to remain on if you really do not want to switch providers. It also gives Charter's customer retention department an opportunity to contact you with an offer later.
5. Call Charter every six to nine months to try to renegotiate your bill. Competitors offer special pricing all the time, which you can use to your advantage. If you notice a price increase, which often happens around the beginning of the calendar year, use that as an opportunity to call and try to negotiate for a lower price.
Tips Warnings
Do not call every month to bargain for a lower price. Charter keeps records of customer phone calls and they will likely stop negotiating with you if you are constantly trying to lower your bill.
Do not get rude with Charter customer service agents. Be firm, but polite when explaining competitor offers.
