Cleaning aluminum pontoons

I am cleaning aluminum pontoons with a acid type cleaner.I tried it on one section and afterwards it poliched up great.But after cleaning the rest of them I ahve a white color onthe parts that were below the water line that was pitted and had quiet a bit of build up on them from where the boat had been docked in water for several years before I bought it.I cant get a even finish on the upper part of the pontoons that were not below water.I am using Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish on them.Any suggestions. Best advice is to purchase the needed cleaning and polishing supplies at a local boat shop. Automobile and likely or similar polishes are not exactly all the same. Using the products made specifically for aluminum boats will work best and the end results will be like it would be if done professionally. Id clean them best I can, then put a good bottom paint on the lower part of them . like a Trilux33 or a Pettit Vivid they can be used on aluminum. If you cant find it there check out www.defender.com ED CleanerBrownCheck with WWW.WestMarin.com they have a products Called Tone bright it takes all of the old stuff off my boat then i can polish it.
