Anyone used minwax highbuild polyurethane

Anyone Used Minwax High-Build Polyurethane?

Hello! While perusing the various clear-coat/urethane products and their respective features, I came across this: Minwax High-Build Polyurethane and was wondering if anyone had used it and if so, what your thoughts are about it. I really like the fact that you can re-coat in as little as 4 hours and really, really like that maximum protection and durability is achieved with 2 coats, with a 3rd coat not being recommended! Just want to say Thank You! to all the outstanding help, advice and patience I've found here in these forums. I've nearly always found the info I've been looking for without even having to post my questions. And, when I have posted my questions, they've always been answered quickly and with great advice and tips! Regards from Arizona, Steve I've never used that poly. I have used various hi-build primers/paints over the years but they always spec'd spraying [I think] I'm a little puzzled by the 2 coat limit. Generally the 1st coat raises the grain which means you do a good bit of sanding which results in the 2nd coat not being quite enough to get the best finish. I suspect the 4 hr recoat time is with optimal drying conditions - it may take longer, especially if it's humid or cool. Hopefully someone that has used this poly will respond, if not, you can be our guinea pig Let us know how it goes. Oh sure, use the new guy as the sacrificial lamb! I wouldn't mind doing just that and reporting my experience with it if it weren't for the fact that it only comes in gallon and larger sizes. I only need about a qt. - if that. I was kinda puzzled by the 2 coat spec. for the same reasons you listed. I suspect the stuff is VERY thick like the stuff they use to coat bar tops with - I dunno... Hopefully someone will chime in and enlighten us with their thoughts on the stuff. Regards, Steve If you only need a quart - I'd just stick with the regular quick dry minwax poly. I doubt it's similar to that real thick coating used on bar tops since the spec states it has about the same application rate/coverage as regular poly.
