Honeywell rth111 wiring

Honeywell RTH111 Wiring

My Dad is attempting to replace our old central air thermostat with a Honeywell RTH111. The model he purchased has the following hookups: Rh Rc W Y G We have the following wires: Red White Blue Yellow Green He thinks the proper way to hook it up is: Rh - Red Rc - W - Y - Yellow G - Green I'm not sure what he's doing with the white or blue for Rc and W. It's for our central air unit. I'm not sure what other information you might need, I'm just trying to figure this out before he breaks something.... .

without know the way the old wires were hooked up then you need to check the wiring connections in the furnace and post what colors are on what terminals. DO NOT install blue to RC.... typical wiring would be: RC and RH jumpered = Red W = white Y = Yellow G = Green this typical wiring by color, but not all installers wire the same. You really need to verify old setup or check wiring in furnace. The last one seemed to have it as Yellow, Red, Green, Blue in a line (I tried to memorize it since my Dad wasn't interested...) but these hookups aren't all in a line. He put blue in Rc and when I told him to check the furnace like you said, he didn't seem to understand what the furnace has to do with the central air unit outside. =/ Whatever way he has it hooked up, the screen is on but it's not responding. /sigh EDIT: The white wasn't hooked up on the old one. RC is cooling hot, RH is heating hot, you only hook them up separately when you have 1 stat that control 2 different types of systems such as a boiler and an air handler. The furnace if forced air is used as the indoor blower part of the a/c that is why the furnace has to do with the a/c. RC and RH need to be jumpered and put to RED. Blue is typically common and put to C, you did not mention your new stat has a C terminal and there by needs capped and taped off. Sometimes blue is connected to Y but this is typically when there is no Yellow wire in the loom. He is insisting that it's just central air, it isn't anything else. Straight central air, as he put it. do you not have a furnace?! If you do how do you control it? DO you have a separate stat? We have a furnace, he's just insisting that it has nothing to do with our central air unit. I apologize, he's kind of a hothead when he fixes stuff so I'm quietly trying to figure this out while he throws a fit. . We control our furnace with a separate stat. EDIT: He said there's a jumper in the Rh and Rc. ok, so it probably is a cooling only then, Check the air handler or where ever your indoor blower is for wiring connections then....It helps and is much easier when you look at the old stat connections and or take a picture so you know what wire went where...
