Motor for wholehouse fan

Motor for whole-house fan

I have a Leslie-Locke whole-house fan. The motor isn't working and I need to replace it. The original motor is a DOW model D-XIN-PSC-6P2SP 1/3HP. I can find this reference on the Internet, but only for the 30 or 40 people that are LOOKING for a replacement.... This is NOTHING special - its a Mickey Mouse 1/3 HP, 120V 5 5.5A, 2 speed, motor with what appears to be a 1/2 shaft and a 4 5/8 stud patter to mount it to the plate...... I finally found a number and called them, but they're not Leslie Locke any more. Customer support said the 15-year warranty was ONLY for the original owner, so they wouldn't help. Tech support said I should just call Home Depot Special Orders and get a Master Flow model 19Q9093 since that was the replacement unit/motor...... Called Home Depot. They don't have it, didn't know what I was talking about, and said they couldn't get it. According to that department, I should INSTEAD call Grainger (I believe they're a very large, national motor company) and get the motor..... SO, I did. Grainger can't match the Master Flow 19Q9093, and insists there's no such thing as a 5 motor with the bolts at 4 5/8... The DID match the DOW model and will call me with a quote, but I figure there's GOT to be a simpler, cheaper way to get a motor for this thing.... Anybody got a source for the Master Flow motor? Or a contact number for Master Flow? Or a competent source for a motor? Look for an elec motor repair shop in your area. If they are close bring the motor in and you should find a new one. Not close, provide the info in the motor tag. Of most importance (not that everything else is very important) is the Frame number. Abbreviated FR. This will tel the motor diameter, shaft size, length etc.. Also match RPM, Amps, and SPEED. If not the fan can over amp and kill the new motor. Unfortunately, the tag on this motor contains very little info. Here it is: DOW MOTOR (USA) Inc. Model No: D-XIN-PSC-6P2SP 1/3 HP 120V 60HZ 5.5A CUSTOMER P/N: 920101 Made in China 01/98 That's it. No other tags, labels, or numbers in/on the case. I did a search for motor repair yesterday and didn't find anything anywhere close... Did some looking around my self in the past hour. Master Flow is sold by HD. Found it on website. Master Flow is made by GAF Materials Corporation, no references to whole house fans on website. Dow Motor, dead end. My opinion, considering all the time wasted thus far and how valuable our time is, buy a new 24 fan and put it in. This is DIY especially since the elec and everything is already there. Yeah, I think it's time to give up... I took the motor to a local electrical repair shop. They got back to me today and told me the bushings are bad, and can't be replaced. AND, a new motor would be more than it's worth... SO, just another dead product because of a mickey mouse problem.... Mayhap folks might want to stay away from Master Flow... Or maybe stuff not made in the USA all together. for all of you out there who have this problem: i had a two speed leslie locke motor which stopped working. after taking it out i did a resistance check and noticed that though it was open between the white and either of the hot leads, there was resistance between the two hots (black and red). i know this is a little unorthodox, but i connected those two to to my line in, and the fan now works fine, probably at slow speed due to the center tap. not sure how long it will work this way, but a lot easier and cheaper than getting a new motor to fit. give it a try if you have a two speed motor with a center tap! Originally Posted by caribeso not sure how long it will work this way, but a lot easier and cheaper than getting a new motor to fit. It will work until it catches on fire and burns your house down. Nothing else to say. I just ordered a replacement motor directly from Master Flow, a division of GAF. If you have your original paperwork, there is a 10 year warranty and it should be no cost for the part just shipping. You can view the attic fan at: MasterFlow Whole House Fans The replacement motor can be purchased by calling 1-877-423-2665 (Master Flow customer service) for $74.48 including shipping. I spoke with Chris there. Their part number is V909319. thru my findings this motor (Dow Motors) has conflicting labels...nevertheless there exist a 24 inch and 30 inch fan motor (master-flow product / GAF)......respectfully P/N 909319 908290 are the item numbers needed fro verification: .........I contacted LL Building Prioducts @ 800-211-9612 spoke with Art who took the information and forwarded a replacement unit under warranty.....no further stress...just provide a copy or data from label for verification of product............Hope this is helpful Beer 4U2 Hello all, I recently purchased this motor from a surplus store called Princess Auto here in Halifax Nova Scotia, and I need the hookup diagram for the leads so I don't make it go poof when I attempt to power it up for the first time to test it. I see here in the thread that the white is the neutural, and the black and red are the 2 hot leads. I'm assuming that this means the motor is a multiple speed motor? I have not been able to locate ANY specs on this motor, therefore I'm not sure of it's specific features such as what RPM does this motor operate at? My motor has the following information on the lable: Sunbeam Corporation P/N 84256-000-000 Dow Motor UL146880 Model D-XIN-PSC-4P4SP-1/10 HP 120V 60hz, 1.4AMP Thermally Protected Made in China 10-97 I was able to find it for sale in a couple of places, such as the link below, but unable to find any technical data about it: osCommerce The main things I want to know are the hookup for all the leads, how many speeds the motor is, and the RPM's at the different speed settings. The wires on the motor are: White Black Red Green Blue Brown Also there are the 2 yellow wires with the factory capacitor attached, this motor appears new, so as soon as I can figure out connect it and how fast it turns at the different speeds, I can put it to good use in the rock and gemstone polishing unit I'm currently about to design and build around the suitable motor. Thanks for your help! Chris Shop Air Vent White Accessory Power Ventilation at Lowes.com__ Lowes has a replacement motor for these DOW motors in the small attic fans. It too is a DOW motor. Welcome to the forums! It is a 3 year old post, so hopefully they got things fixed.
