Get Rid Of White Stretch Marks

Stretch marks are scars which appear on the skin after periods of rapid growth. Though they can vary in color, stretch marks are often white. At first, stretch marks may appear red or pink but after a few months, they usually fade to a white color. People of any skin tone can get stretch marks but they are often most noticeable on people with dark complexions. Thankfully, there is a bevy of things you can do to get rid of stretch marks. Be diligent in your treatment approach and you will see results over time.

Instructions

1. Exfoliate. Regular exfoliation aids in skin cell regeneration. New skin cells will then be created more quickly to replace older, damaged cells. Use a body scrub and loofah to gently exfoliate the area once to twice per week.

2. Wear sunscreen on your stretch marks. The sun's damaging rays will worsen your stretch marks and thwart your efforts to get rid of them. If you'll be in the sun for extended periods of time, cover your stretch marks with protective clothing.

3. Apply a scar treatment cream or ointment to the area. Stretch marks are scars so virtually any scar treatment cream will work. Many over-the-counter creams contain onion extract which has been shown to improve the appearance of scars.

4. Massage your stretch marks. Use a circular motion as you apply gentle pressure. This will improve circulation, allowing nutrients and blood to better reach the marks. In addition, massage can break up scar tissue, helping to get rid of the stretch marks for good.

5. Get laser therapy treatments. Laser treatment is the most effective method for getting rid of white stretch marks. The laser's light targets the pigment and texture of the stretch marks, effectively breaking them up. Your skin will appear red and irritated after laser treatment. Generally, several sessions are necessary to completely get rid of stretch marks.

6. Consider microdermabrasion treatments. A tiny sandblaster-type device buffs away the top layers of your skin to reveal younger, less-damaged skin below. After several treatments, your stretch marks will become significantly less visible.

7. Know that cosmetic surgery can remove white stretch marks. Excess skin is cut away, thereby completely removing the stretch marks. Such a procedure is only appropriate if there is sufficient skin to remove. Talk to a licensed plastic surgeon about your candidacy for such a procedure.
