The 8mm video cassette was designed for use in compact handheld camcorders.
The Video8 or 8mm video format is a type of video recording system developed by Sony in the early 1980s as a means of recording high quality video footage to a video cassette small enough to fit into a hand-held camcorder. Although the 8mm video cassettes are substantially smaller than their VHS equivalents, the process of converting 8mm video to a CD is similar to other video conversions.
Instructions
1. Attach one end of the RCA to RCA connector cable to the appropriate color sockets on the camcorder. Attach the yellow plug on the other end of the cable to the video input socket on your video capture card. If the video capture card allows it, plug the other RCA plugs into its audio input sockets, otherwise plug them into the line in socket on your sound card using a double RCA to mini jack adapter.
2. Insert the 8mm video cassette into the camcorder and turn it on. Turn on the computer, log in and load your video capture software, such as Windows Movie Maker, iMovie or NeroVision. Advance the video to the appropriate starting point to capture the video. Press "Play" on the camcorder. Press "Record" on the video capture software. When the video has finished, press "Stop" on the video capture software, then "Stop" on the camcorder.
3. Save the recorded video. Consult your software's instructions as each program differs. Close the video capture software and load the video conversion software, such as Windows DVD Maker, NeroVision or Roxio.
4. Start a new Video CD session and add your saved video file to it. Each program differs, so follow the on-screen instructions to create your video CD.
5. Insert a blank CD into your CD burner. Click "Next" or "Burn" to burn the saved 8mm video to CD.
