USB memory stick.
A USB memory stick is an external memory device used to save data and multimedia files from PCs. In terms of size, memory cards are much smaller, but functionality wise, they work in the same way as memory sticks. Because of their size, they are normally used as external memory disks in cameras and cell phones. The files from these memory cards can be saved to a PC and then backed up on a memory stick. Many people use memory sticks as a backup hard drive to their PCs.
Instructions
Opening the USB Stick
1. Insert the memory stick into the USB port. The USB port should be located on the front of your desktop tower or the perimeter of your laptop or netbook. If you do not have a USB Port on your PC, you will have to purchase a USB hub. This is an external USB port.
2. Go to the start menu located in the bottom left hand corner of your toolbar. Click it, and then open the "My Computer" folder.
3. Locate the name of your USB stick from the list of drives available. Double-click the USB's drive to open it. Minimize the folder.
Using the USB Stick as a Memory Card
4. Locate the file that you want to save to your USB stick. If you are saving the program, save the "exe" file from this program, and not the shortcut.
5. Drag the selected file to the open USB stick folder, which should be minimized to your toolbar.
6. Close both folders. In the bottom right hand corner of your toolbar, there will be a symbol with a green triangle on it. Double-click this symbol and locate the name of your USB stick or the USB port that it's plugged in to. Click the button that says "Safely Remove Hardware." Once you have removed the hardware, click "Okay," then unplug the USB stick.
