Buying a camera lens at a pawn shop can sometimes be a strenuous task. If you know what type of lens you are looking for, there are several steps you can take to get the best deal for your buck.
Instructions
1. Gather your notebook and pen and write down the model numbers of various lenses you are interested in buying. There are numerous types of camera lenses available, all of which will facilitate unique shooting styles and angles. Determine which lens will be perfect for you and then begin your hunt.
2. Call at least five different pawn shops in your immediate area and ask about their selection of lenses. Inform them that you are looking for a specific type of lens; however, be vague about the exact model number. For example, if you were looking for a 200mm Canon SLR lens, you would ask the pawn shop if they carry any Canon lenses that have 200mm capability.
3. Write down any information the pawn shop will provide. Compare the various camera lenses that each pawn shop has available. Don’t be surprised if they will not give you an exact price over the phone.
4. First visit the top three pawn shops on your list. Ask to see all of their lenses that are compatible with your camera. Do not ask if you can see a certain type of lens (such as only the 200mm), because many pawn shops are not trained to understand the exact qualities of a lens. This is up to you.
5. Review all of the lenses you are shown. If they do not fit, ask to see all of the shop's SLR cameras. These cameras come with their own lenses, and in most cases, the lens you are looking for is already attached to a camera. Attach the lens to your own camera; if it is a great fit, ask the pawn-shop clerk if he is willing to let you purchase the lens and not the camera. In most cases, you will be able to do this. If not, inform him that you are interested in that lens, but if he does not let you purchase it, you will visit another pawn shop, which has the lens you are looking for.
