Portable DVD players are great for use on plane rides, road trips or long waits.
Most replacement cords are easily removable, but some may require additional steps. There are generally three types of power cords: coax, solder and chip. Coax and chip cords are simply removed from the electrical component and replaced with another. Solder cords will require a few extra steps. Before going through the trouble of trying to replace a faulty portable DVD player cord, it's important to first ascertain that the cord is irreparable; you may be able to repair it at home rather than replacing it. The availability of a replacement cord for a portable DVD player is usually dependent on the brand, age and popularity of the product.
Instructions
Determining The Damage
1. Holding the unplugged cord to light, look for potential holes or punctures in the casing.
2. Bend the cord to view the copper wires.
3. If the wires are only slightly severed, patch with electrical tape.
4. If the wires are completely severed, then it is indeed time to replace the cord.
Replacing The Power Cord
5. For a coax or chip power cord, simply remove the old cord from the electrical component and replace with a new corresponding cord.
6. For a power cord that is soldered to the DVD unit, carefully melt the connected end of the cord using a soldering iron.
7. Remove the old power cord.
8. Place the new power cord in its place by adding a new solder.
