Troubleshoot your Sony flat screen TV.
Your Sony WEGA flat screen TV produces high-quality audio and video so you can enjoy your favorite sporting events, movies, comedy shows and games. However, like every television, there are times when you need to fix some quirks that might appear. As you learn troubleshoot a Sony WEGA flat screen TV, you can take care of minor problems on your own instead of calling in a pricey service person to fix it for you.
Instructions
Low or No Sound
1. Check to make sure the television isn't on mute and that there are no headphones connected to the television. These would both prevent audio from coming through the front speakers.
2. Test the television using another source like a cable box, DVD player or a VCR. If there's still no audio, you know it's a problem with the television. If there is audio, you know the problem isn't with your television.
3. Confirm the settings in your Sony WEGA flat screen TV's menu to make sure MTS is set to "Main" or "Stereo." Find the "Simulated" effect option in your TV menu and turn it "Off." Verify that the "Speakers" option in the menu is "On."
Flashing Standby Light
4. Turn your Sony WEGA flat screen TV off. Wait 5 minutes to allow the internal lamp to cool before you proceed.
5. Unplug the television from the electrical outlet.
6. Wait 1 minute.
7. Plug the television back into the same electrical outlet. If your television was plugged into a surge protector or a power strip, plug the television directly into the wall. If that fixes the problem, you could have issues with your power strip or surge protector.
8. Use the remote to turn the television on to test the signal.
Poor Picture Quality
9. Ensure there's no reflection or glare on the Sony WEGA flat screen TV from an external light source. Glare can make the picture seem like it's of lesser quality than it is.
10. Power off electrical devices that might cause RF (radio frequency) interference. Common devices that can affect your television's picture quality are battery-operated toys, halogen and fluorescent light bulbs and vacuum cleaners.
11. Navigate your Sony WEGA flat screen TV's menu and turn "On" the "Digital Noise Reduction (DNR)" function. Try turning "On" or "Off" the "Digital Reality Creation (DRC)" feature. You might also try to adjust the "Sharpness" of your screen to see if it improves the quality of the picture.
12. Try to plug your television into a different outlet or surge protector. That could be a sign of an outlet or surge protector that isn't producing the proper voltage.
