Hundreds of cell phone types are available in the market and more are being introduced every day. Every cell phone comes with its own set of accessories, including its own specific power adapter. A power adapter is the most important accessory for a cell phone since without it you cannot charge the phone's battery. Since it is such an important component, you must take good care of it so that it does not get damaged.
Never Use a Different Adapter
This is one of the mistakes that people make often. They lose their cell phone adapter and try to use another phone's adapter, thus damaging the phone's socket or providing it different voltage and current than it needs. Every cell phone has its own voltage and current requirements, and the power adapter must correspond to that. So never try to use an adapter that is not made for your cell phone.
Cord and Tip Care
Take special care of your cell phone adapter's cord since they are generally not rated for too much twisting and turning and can get damaged easily. Store the adapter in a dry space away from sharp objects. Also, the tip of the adapter that goes into the phone socket is delicate. It should fit into the socket effortlessly. If it does not, do not force it into the socket as one of the pins in the tip or the socket may have been bent. If you force the tip into the socket while the pin is bent, you may damage the cell phone because its ground wire may get connected to the power supply and damage some of the electronic chips.
Backup Charger
Always keep a backup adapter with you. To make these adapters small, the manufacturers do not make them capable of withstanding large surges in electricity supply. Therefore, an unexpected large spike in the electricity can leave the adapter damaged. Having a backup adapter ensures that you can continue using your cell phone if this happens.
USB Adapter
Some newer cell phones, specially the smartphones, come with USB power adapters. Such an adapter uses the 5V output of the USB port of a computer to charge the cell phone. Apart from being convenient, such adapters are small and easy to carry around.
