Install Zip Files On Windows Mobile

Installing software on Windows Mobile.

Installing software on a Windows Mobile device is a fairly straightforward process. Executable files are installed by running the EXE file on the computer with the mobile device connected and the ActiveSync application running. CAB files are copied to the device and installed using the File Explorer in Windows Mobile. ZIP files, however, must first be unzipped using WinZip or any other compression utility prior to installing to the Windows Mobile device. In most cases, a CAB file or EXE file will be included as one of the files in the ZIP archive. Otherwise, unzip the files in the ZIP archive and copy the files to the device.

Instructions

1. Turn on the mobile device and connect the device to the computer. ActiveSync will launch and pair with the device.

2. Right-click on the ZIP file and select "Extract To" from the context menu.

3. Select a location for the unzipped files and click "OK." Inspect the unzipped files. If an EXE file is found in the list, execute the installation by double-clicking on the EXE file while the device is connected to the computer and ActiveSync is running. Follow any onscreen prompts to install the software to the computer and the device.

4. Click the "ActiveSync" icon in the taskbar to open the ActiveSync interface.

5. Click the "Explore" link in the ActiveSync window to open the file explorer. The file explorer will open to the root directory of the mobile device.

6. Drag and drop the unzipped files into the root directory of the mobile device.

7. Unplug and/or disconnect the mobile device from the computer.

8. Select the "Start" link on the Today screen in Windows Mobile.

9. Select the "My Documents" link. The copied files will be located at the bottom of the My Documents list. If the ZIP file contained a CAB installation file, tap this file to initiate the installation routine on the mobile device. Follow any onscreen prompts to complete the installation.
