Troubleshoot A Panasonic Dmres15

The Panasonic DMR-ES15 is compatible with all DVD discs and has quick-starting functionality that speeds up the start-up process. Note that disc rotating sounds, image distortion when searching and failure to play due to bad disks are normal. Also, check to make sure the batteries are fresh in your remote controls and reboot the machine before you begin to troubleshoot.

Instructions

1. If the images from the disc do not show on your television, make sure the television is connected properly. Check to see that the "Video Out" terminals on the DMR-ES15 have cable in them; they lead to the TV and are connected to the "Video In" on the TV. Also, make sure the television's "Input" setting is correct. That is also one of the controls on the TV remote. Press it repeatedly until you see the DVD playback.

2. When the DVD picture is distorted, it is possible the TV is not compatible with the Progressive/Interlace settings of the DMR-ES15. Press and hold the "Stop" button and the "Play" button (which has the arrow and x1.3 on it) at the same time for about 5 seconds. The setting will change from Progressive to Interlace.

3. If the screen aspect or screen size looks wrong, you may be able to use the television to change the aspect ratio. Some older televisions will not have that ability. When you cannot, go into the DMR-ES15's video menu and switch off the "Progressive" setting. Look at the DMR-ES15's video menu settings for "TV Type." Try switching settings between "4.3 TV Settings for DVD-Video" and "4.3 Settings for DVD-RAM" and see if that helps.

4. When playing back and you get after-image, set the DNR in the video menu to "Off." Another playback-type issue can be that parts of the image appear to be doubled-up. This is again a Progressive setting issue. Switch it "Off" in the menu. It should fix itself in Interlace mode.
