Disassembly Instructions For Motorola Razr

Motorola RAZRs aren't the easiest phones to disassemble, but if you need to replace any of the components, you can do it with two screwdrivers and a thin plastic item used as a wedge. There's not a specific order in which you have to disassemble the phone. You just have to go from the outside to the inside. If you ever want to use the phone again, be careful with the back side, because that's where the motherboard is located. If it's damaged, get ready to buy a new phone.

Removing the Flip Cover

To take apart the flip cover, you'll need a Torx T5 and a T6 screwdriver. Flip the cover up and expose the screen. At the four edges of the screen, there are four rubber buffers. Remove them to reveal the screws that hold the pieces of the flip cover together. Slide a credit card or an object of the same thickness in the crease on all four sides of the flip cover and wedge it apart. Pull the top of the cover off to expose the interior components of the screen and the camera.

Disassembling the Screen

With the top of the flip cover taken off, remove the rubber buffer surrounding the camera, disconnect the flat ribbon that attaches the camera to the phone and pull the camera out. Disconnect the flat ribbon that connects the screen to the keypad and pull off the lens of the screen. Pull up the brown material that surrounds the screen to free it from the phone assembly and then take off the entire screen. Take the brown material off the screen once you've removed it from the phone and you are left with two sides of the screen.

Taking Apart the Keypad

Remove the battery cover and then take out the battery and the SIM card. Use the T6 screwdriver to take out the two screws inside the battery compartment. Now that the screws are removed, you can use the credit card or other object to pry apart the bottom of the back of the phone. Flip the back of the phone over, but be gentle because there's a flat cable still attaching the motherboard to the back casing. Disconnect the flat cable to completely separate the back of the phone. Pry off the components covering the motherboard and then take off the motherboard.

Finishing

Take out the four screws inside the back casing of the phone and then pry up the base. Peel off the sticker that has the bar code on it to expose the back side of the keyboard and the eight tabs that hold it in place. Pry the tabs upward and push them out to remove the keyboard. At this point, you will have completely disassembled the Motorola RAZR.
