The Motorola i335 is a cell phone manufactured specifically for the Nextel network. On this cell phone, you can create any ringtone you like. All you have to do is use an application for cropping the audio file to an appropriate size and duration. For instance, you can select your favorite part of a song while cropping the rest of it.
Instructions
1. Download the mpTrim application (see the Resources section for a link to the application). On the right margin of the web page click "mpTrim 2.13" under "Latest Versions." Instead of downloading the application, you may simply run it for immediate use only. Once the program opens, go to "File" from the top of the application window and click "Open." Open the song that you want to use as a ringer from your hard disk.
2. Use the functional tabs of mpTrim to edit and crop the song as you like. Use the time-elapse meters and arrows to edit the song. Do not make the ringtone longer than 25 seconds to save memory on the phone. Once the file is edited and you are satisfied with it, select "Save As" and give it a name. Close mpTrim after saving the file.
3. Change the extension of the file you saved. Nextel cell phones play ringtones in .AAC extension, so you will have to convert the edited file's format to .AAC. For this purpose, click the "Wavepad" link in the Resources section. Click the "Download" button on the page and select "Run the application" for using it once only. As it opens, click "File" from the top main menu and select "Open." Browse Windows Explorer to locate the edited ringer file. Open this file and let it load.
4. Click the "Stop" button when the song starts to play. Alter and adjust the sound settings of the song using the navigation menu on the top of the application. When you have successfully edited the sound quality, click "File" at the top of the application and select "Save As" from the context menu. A small "Save As" pop-up window will appear in which there will be a drop-down menu containing different file extension names. Select .AAC from this drop box and click "Save" for closing the file. Close the program.
5. Upload the file to your Motorola i335 using the Nextel Spring Focus Uploader (see Resources for a link). Enter your cell phone number and a file name for the ringer you created when prompted. Upload the edited ringer from your hard drive to the web page and hit the "Upload" button. Wait to receive the ringer file on your Motorola cell phone via text message.
6. Open the text message on your cell phone and click the link in the message to confirm that you want to download the file. Wait about 15 to 30 seconds for the download to finish. Press the "OK" button to save the file and store it along with all the other ringers on your phone.
