Know Which Firmware My Iphone 3g Is Using

The firmware on your iPhone 3G is the version of the iPhone software your phone is running. Updates to the firmware will often include fixes for bugs and improved functionality, and in some cases they will make your phone compatible with new software. Finding out what version of the iPhone firmware your phone is running can be done two different ways.

On Your Phone

Press the "Settings" button on your iPhone's home screen. Within the settings menu, select "General" and then "About." The "About" menu will list a substantial amount of information about your phone including how many songs and photos you have stored on it, the number applications you have, and your phone's Wi-Fi and Bluetooth addresses. The firmware version will be listed with the word "Version."

On Your Computer

Plug your iPhone into your computer and launch iTunes. Click the icon of your iPhone from the list on the left side of the program to launch your iPhone menu. The firmware version your phone is using will be listed on the screen. Click the "Check Update" button to update the firmware on your phone to the latest version.
