Sunpak 433d Instructions

The Sunpak 433D automatically bathes the subject of a photograph in an appropriate amount of light.

The Sunpak 433D automatic flash system is designed for use with any camera that has a hot shoe connector on top of the camera. Once you set the Sunpak to the appropriate range of exposure, it will automatically determine the amount of light that is appropriate to illuminate the subject of a photograph within that range, and will automatically flash that amount of light when the picture is taken. While the Sunpak is very easy for an inexperienced photographer to use, it also allows expert photographers to customize its use with advanced settings.

Instructions

1. Insert batteries into your Sunpak 433D flash unit. You can use four AA alkaline or nickel-cadmium batteries. Alternately, if you have also purchased the Sunpak Powerpak, you can connect the Powerpak, and insert a 510-volt rechargeable battery.

2. Mount the Sunpak onto your camera. The Sunpak is designed to mount on your camera's hot shoe or accessory shoe, which is a connector on the top of the camera designed to house an automatic flash. Once the Sunpak is mounted, turn the locking ring clockwise to lock it in place. Certain camera models may require connection of a hot shoe accessory to mount an automatic flash; refer to your camera's instruction manual for details.

3. Set the camera shutter speed to its fastest supported level for optimum use with an electronic flash. Refer to your camera's instructional manual for information on the fastest flash speed your camera can handle.

4. Flip the switch labeled "A/M" on the Sunpak to the appropriate position for your photograph. For automatic exposure accuracy between 8 and 60 feet, set the A/M switch to the green "A." For automatic accurate exposure between 4 and 30 feet, set the switch to the yellow "A." For maximum depth of field and exposure accuracy at distances between 2 and 15 feet, set the switch to the red "A."

5. Turn the Sunpak's On/Off switch to the On position. Wait a few seconds until the Ready/Test button on the Sunpak begins to glow.

6. Take the picture. The Sunpak will automatically flash the amount of light that is appropriate for the distance at which you are focused, as long as that distance is within the appropriate exposure range.

7. Download a free copy of the Sunpak 433D manual (see the Resource section of this article) if you would like pictorial representations of Sunpak operation. The manual may also be useful if you are interested in using the advanced features of the Sunpak such as manual exposure settings, power ratio adjustment, bounce flash head features, and optional accessories.
