Buy A Home Theater Screen

Selecting the right screen for you home theater or media center involves several factors that can affect your comfort level and your ability to enjoy the experience. Here are a few tips for selecting the home theater screen that is right for your home.

Instructions

1. Determine how far away from the screen your seating will be located. This can make a big difference in selecting the size of the screen, with closer equalling smaller and farther away equalling larger.

2. Determine the capabilities of your projector. A high definition projector 12 feet away from the screen can deliver a sharper image to a wider screen than a normal video or DLP projector.

3. Use black electrician's tape to mark out the size of the screen you think you might want on the wall where the screen is being installed. Sit in the area where you plan to set up your seats, and see if the viewing area is comfortable for you. Keep making changes until you're satisfied.

4. Check the screen's height, which can affect the viewing distance. The format of the screen--anamorphic (widescreen) or full screen can make a big difference in how close you have your seats.

5. Know your options. You can have a screen custom made and installed permanently on a wall, which is more expensive, or you can install a pull down screen that rolls up when not in use. Links to a couple of the more popular screen manufacturers are listed below in Resources.
