Alltel Ringbacks are an alternative to the standard ringing of a phone when placing a call. While your caller is waiting for you to answer your phone, you can customize what they hear. Sometimes, however, it's more appropriate for the callers to hear the traditional ring, especially if you are expecting an important call. Learning disable ringbacks will prevent an important person from hearing your favorite rap song.
Instructions
1. Register for an account on Alltel's "Personalize" page (see Resources below). This will allow you access to ringbacks. Log into your account once it has been activated. Here you can preview, purchase and delete ringbacks in your account.
2. Access your "My Ringback Profile." Choose the "Hibernation" mode to temporarily disable your ringbacks. Note that you will still be charged the $0.99 per month fee for the ringback service.
3. Avoid paying for the ringback service during the time you wish to have it disabled by calling *611 on your cell phone. Ask the representative to remove the entire ringback service, so you will not be charged. Note that this will delete all previously purchased ringbacks, so you will have to buy them again once you resume the service.
