What Happens To A File When It'S Deleted From A Pen Drive

You can usually recover deleted files from your pen drive.

Pen drives are handy, portable memory sticks that connect to nearly any computer with a USB port. Although pen drives make it easy to carry your data with you, they lack some of the safeguards that protect data stored on regular hard drives.

Normal File Deletion

Files deleted from the hard drive are stored in a junk data folder called Trash on the Mac or Recycle Bin on the PC. Deleted files are accessible in the junk data folder until it is emptied by the user or operating system. The junk data folder concept provides an extra layer of protection against accidental erasure for files stored on a standard hard drive.

Pen Drive File Deletion

Because a pen drive is a stand-alone drive, files deleted from the pen drive are not sent to the system's junk folder. Instead, deleted files are simply expunged from the drive's folder structure and the operating system's memory.

Pen Drive File Recovery

Many data recovery programs are available that can retrieve files deleted from pen drives. If you need to recover a file deleted from your pen drive, stop using the pen drive immediately to ensure that it doesn't reuse the area of its memory where the deleted file was stored---if it does, the file won't be recoverable. Then download a data recovery program (see Resources) that can recover files from memory sticks to your desktop computer and use it to retrieve the deleted file from your pen drive.
