Making an IR filter for your digital camera doesn't have to be expensive.
A digital camera picks up more infrared light than the human eye. If you filter out the visible (non-infrared) light you can create photographs that have an unusual look. Although it usually costs about $60 to $70 to purchase one of these filters, you can make your own with a bit of old film.
Instructions
1. Take the developed film and cut off the black ends. They should be about the size of a quarter. Cut off two pieces and glue them together.
2. Open an old disk filter by slowly taking apart its plastic casing. Be careful not to smudge the film contained inside. Cut two square pieces off about the size of a quarter using a pair of scissors. This is an alternative to using film.
3. Mount the filter by taking apart your digital camera. Remove the lens from the camera and behind it you will find the CCD (charged couple device). Attached to the CCD will be a filter. If the filter is clear then you can leave it. If there is a colored lens gently pry it off using a flat head screwdriver. Be careful not to damage the CCD. Use a small bit of nontoxic craft glue and to attach the film or floppy disk tape to the CCD. Allow it to dry and reassemble your camera.
