Instructions For Sony Fd Mavica Digital Camera

The Sony FD Mavica camera is one of a series of digital cameras built by the Sony Corporation. The FD models within the series used 3.5-inch floppy disks as storage for the digital files. The camera offers a number of controls and options, giving the photographer the ability to adjust the resolution and other factors affecting the final quality of the picture.

Sony FD Mavica Instructions

The Sony FD series of cameras utilizes rechargeable batteries. Before operating the camera be sure the battery is fully charged. The camera's date and time are also usually set and the neck strap attached before the camera is used.

Once the battery is installed, a 3.5-inch floppy disk is inserted into the camera. The disk will only click into place when inserted properly. Insert the disk with the sliding access panel on the leading edge. The label of the disk faces towards the back of the camera. Make sure the write protection tabs of the disk are set to allow writing to the disk.

With the battery and disk in place, the camera is ready to start taking pictures. The operator should familiarize himself with all the controls of the Sony Mavica. This includes mode switches, zoom controls and an on and off switch. Make sure the camera is turned on before beginning to take pictures.

Pressing the shutter half way will engage the auto exposure lock. This locks the current focus and white balance settings in place. By pressing the shutter the rest of the way down, the picture is taken and the file is written to the floppy disk.

There are numerous settings that can control the captured image. These settings of these controls is displayed on the LCD screen mounted on the back of the camera. This includes the resolution of the picture, any special effects chosen, the level of zoom selected, remaining disk capacity and remaining battery life.

The Sony Mavica FD can also be used to display the pictures taken by the camera. The slide control immediately below the LCD controls the recording or play back function of the camera. Once the camera is set to play a display the control button can be used to advance through the pictures. The same button also allows the photographer to replay earlier photographs for review or display and index of the existing pictures.

During the play function pictures can be marked as protected or deleted. By deleting images space is freed on the disk allowing more photographs to be taken.

Images captured by the Sony Mavica FD can also be displayed on a computer equipped with a 3.5 inch floppy disk drive. The files are stored on the disk in the JPEG format and can be accessed with many software applications.
