Directions For Xm Roady

Though it's an older model, the Delphi XM Roady is a versatile, plug-and-play XM receiver that can be set up in both the home and car. When properly set up, the Roady will allow you to listen to XM radio pretty much anywhere you want.

Antenna Setup

Out of the box, the Roady comes with hardware designated for vehicle use. You'll find a 12-volt adapter, cassette audio adapter, antenna and mounting hardware. Install the antenna onto the middle of your vehicle's roof. It should be 6 inches from any window or sunroof. You can also mount the antenna onto the trunk, if you do not have a metallic roof surface (i.e. soft top). Clean the surface of the roof and mount the magnetic antenna. Run the antenna wire along the door, trunk or window frame and into the vehicle. The antenna should not obstruct your vision or control of the vehicle in any way and should be out of the way of those entering the vehicle. One good place to run it is along the top or bottom inside weather stripping of the door frame to the dash and to the location of the receiver. Avoid bending or crimping the cable.

Receiver Mounting

Locate a clear, hard mounting surface on your vehicle where you can have easy access to the controls of your Roady. Make sure that all required cables can reach the unit and that it doesn't impede your airbags, your vision or your ability to reach vehicle controls. Clean off the area with the included cleaning kit, rubbing it down in one direction. Dry it off with a cloth and repeat the cleaning, allowing it to air dry afterward. The surface should be 60 degrees F or above when mounting. Heat up the included adhesive mounting pad using a hair dryer or vehicle heater. Pull the paper off the back and firmly apply the adhesive to your clean mounting location. For best results, allow 72 hours to let it fully bond. Then snap the Roady onto the mount.

Connections

Install the 12-volt power adapter into the power port on the top left side of your Roady and into your 12-volt socket in your vehicle. Plug the antenna cable into the antenna jack on the bottom left. You can connect the Roady to your vehicle's stereo in several ways. The kit comes with a cassette adapter, in which you'll plug the tape into the cassette deck and connect the cable to your Roady's audio output. Alternately, if your stereo has an auxiliary input, you can connect the audio output on the Roady to the auxiliary input on your vehicle. The audio output is between the antenna and power jacks. If your vehicle is equipped with neither option, a separate FM modulator can be purchased and installed to tap into your FM antenna.

Activation

Turn the Roady on and tune into channel 1--this channel is a preview station and should work regardless of whether your unit is activated. Turn to channel 0 and record the eight-digit ID number. With your ID number and credit card, contact XM at (800) 852-9696 to activate your account. You can also activate online by following the link below. Keep the Roady on for an hour after activation to ensure that your unit is properly integrated into the system. Familiarize yourself with the controls and enjoy your new XM subscription.

Home Setup

To set-up your Roady at home, you can purchase a home kit for the unit that will include a dock, antenna, power adapter and audio connections to integrate it into your home stereo system. You can also purchase XM docks, if you don't have a stereo system. The antenna should be set up in a window with a clear view of the south sky.
