Load the camcorder software onto a PC to transfer files.
Digital camcorders store video on an internal hard drive for quick access and simple transfer from the camcorder to other devices, such as a computer. The camcorder comes with software, typically on a CD, for transferring files to a computer. Once the software is installed on the PC, digital video files can be moved almost instantaneously from the camcorder to the computer. It takes only a minute to connect the camcorder to the PC with an audio-video cable.
Instructions
1. Insert the plugs on the connector cable into the port on the camcorder and the port on the PC. USB and Firewire (IEEE 1394) cables are common connectors for a camcorder and computer.
2. Insert the software CD in the computer's media tray, close the tray and wait for the program to start automatically.
3. Install the software by clicking the on-screen buttons when prompted, then restart the computer if directed to do so.
4. Turn on the camcorder and double-click the name of the software program to open it on the computer.
5. Click the "File" tab on the software to open a folder containing all the digital video recordings stored on the camcorder.
6. Click the desired video file to transfer to the computer, then click "Import," "Transfer," "Copy to PC" or similar wording, depending on the camcorder model. A copy of the selected video file will be stored on the PC hard drive.
