Christmas Family Picture Pose Ideas

Use a fun and creative pose to take a memorable Christmas family photo.

Family photographs are a great way to remember the holidays and capture the moment in time. Whether you are taking a Christmas family photo for your own personal uses or to send out in Christmas cards, consider using a creative pose to add an extra element of interest to your photograph. Regardless of your family's size or the ages of your family members, you can arrange yourselves into a variety of fun and creative poses to take a truly memorable Christmas photograph.

Outdoor Fun

Take advantage of the glittering ice, fresh snow and winter sun for a fun family Christmas photo. Have all the kids dress in snow suits and lie in the snow with their heads forming a circle and their bodies extending outwards, like a snowflake or a star. Stand on a chair or picnic table to take a photograph of their smiling faces against the crisp snow. Or, dress the family in warm winter gear and ice skates. Stand in a line on the ice and hold hands for a cute, fun photo. To add a humorous spin to the photo, some of the family members can pretend to be falling on the ice.

Traditional

For a traditional family photograph, have the entire family gather in front of a festive background. Popular ideas include the Christmas tree or a roaring fireplace with Christmas stockings. Arrange all of the family members into a pleasing arrangement. With smaller families, consider having everyone stand or sit. For larger families, you might need to have some family members stand, while some kneel and other sit. For an interesting Christmas twist on the picture, ask each family member to hold a small ornament or gift. Or, have each family member hold a letter and spell out "Merry Christmas," "Peace," "Joy" or any other appropriate word.

Build a Living "Snowdad"

To prepare for this Christmas family portrait, build a solid snowman base. Once the base is completed, begin filling in the middle portion. Once half of the middle portion has been packed on top of the base, have the father stand behind the snowman and lean into it. Continue filling in the middle portion around the father's chest. Once the snowman's middle has been complete it should look like the father's arms are poking out the side of the snowman and his head is nestled on top. Place a warm winter cap on his head and a pipe in his mouth. Wrap a scarf around his neck and place colorful mittens on his hands. Then, arrange the rest of the family around the "Snowdad" for a family portrait.
