Loading film correctly ensures that your picture quality is worthy of the memories printed on your film. Here are a few things you should know about loading film in Polaroid cameras.

Instructions

1. Lay the camera lens-down on a flat surface. It can be tricky to put film in the camera while you're holding it in your hand. When laying the camera down put a cloth between the camera and the table surface to avoid any possibility of damage to the lens component of the camera.

2. Clean the processing rollers or film holder regularly. Check for dust every time you load film. If the roller or holder needs cleaning, use a clean, moist cloth and make sure the component is completely dry before you load the film into the camera. Never use rubbing alcohol or any other kind of astringent cleansers.

3. Open both the inner and outer backs of your camera fully to access the film chamber.

4. Use the pull string on your film roll to expose a small "thread" of film you can use to wind into the film chamber. Take notice of any tape seals on your roll of film. You must break the tape seal around the leader portion of the film roll, but it is essential that you leave the clearly marked seals on the positive and negative film rolls intact.

5. Wind the film through the rollers in the camera chamber as required by your specific Polaroid model. Step-by-step diagrams will be included in your owner's manual, and many of the film stocks also include loading instructions.

6. Close the back of the camera, where you should be able to spot the loose end of the film leader protruding from the slot. Your film has now been loaded into the camera.

7. Take a throwaway shot or two at the beginning of the roll. If you've accidentally exposed any film to light, or if there's any leader remaining in the film roll, you'll probably be able to work past it by just snapping off some junk shots to start the roll.
