When files are deleted from a hard drive or memory card, they are not immediately erased. Rather, most operating systems simply mark them as acceptable to write over with new information. There are several programs available online that can recover information marked for deletion. The sooner you attempt recovery, the more likely you will be successful because the chances that your files will have been overwritten are low.
Instructions
1. Consider GetData's program, Recover My Files. The program boasts an intuitive interface that requires a user to select the location of the deleted file, then select the file that the program should attempt to recover. The same company also makes a program specifically designed for recovering image files.
2. VirtualLab by BinaryBiz is a second program that can recover files from hard drives, memory cards and other storage devices. This program is a good choice if you only need to recover a single file, because it comes with a free trial that allows you to recover up to one megabyte of information. Charges for further recovery depend upon the amount of data that you need to recover.
3. PC Inspector File Recovery is a freeware program written by German developer Convar. While it is not as easy to use as the other two programs listed, it may be worth giving a chance, especially if you do not need to use recovery software often. The program and instructions for its use are available in a variety of languages, including English.
