Troubleshoot Sony Hi8 Handycam

The Sony CCD-TRV138 Hi8 Handycam sports a compact design and a variety of features that are perfect for capturing family occasions and events. But every now and then, there may be minor problems and malfunctions. Use these guidelines to troubleshoot and solve those glitches.

Instructions

Battery Not Charging

1. Remove the battery from the camcorder or charger. Check for any dust or debris in the battery compartment and the charger. Lint can hinder connectivity by clogging metal contacts.

2. Clean the metal contacts on the battery compartment with a soft lint-free cloth. Wipe the metal contacts on the battery and its charger.

3. Reinsert the battery. If it powers on, continue to use as normal. If it does not, try another battery. If that works, then the battery is damaged, and needs servicing or replacement.

Casette Deck Stuck

4. Turn off the camera, then remove the battery from its compartment. Unplug the AC power, and turn off the camcorder.

5. Slide the power switch to VTR, VCR or camera mode for at least 15 seconds. Plug the AC power back into the camera, then turn on power. Try again to eject the tape deck.

6. If the tape deck still is not opening, locate the reset button, then push and hold for a few seconds. Resetting the camera restores the original factory settings. Try opening the tape deck again. If it still does not open, the handycam will need servicing or repair.

Error Codes 22 and 92

7. Insert a dry-head cleaning tape into the tape deck. Follow the cleaning steps outlined in the owner's maual. Error code 22 usually appears on the camcorder's display when the deck is dirty or moist.

8. Let the camera dry out in an area away from humidity and precipitation. Open the tape deck and leave to dry for at least 30 minutes. Turn camera back on, and operate as normal. If you still see an error code, the camera may need repair.

9. Turn off the camera, then turn on again if you see error code 92. This error occurs when a different lithium battery other than the manufacturer's is used. It also is displayed when the battery is unplugged with the camera still on AC power.
