Speedlite 430ex Tips

If there is not enough available light photographers use external flashes like the Canon 430EX Speedlite.

Light, whether it be natural or artificial, is one of the most important components of photography. When there is not enough available light, photographers can use the Canon EX430 Speedlite external flash to illuminate the scene they are shooting. This flash connects to the top of digital cameras that have a "hot shoe" mount and works with your camera to achieve the best possible picture.

E-TTL II

The Canon 430EX Speedlite comes with E-TTL II technology, which is Canon's proprietary system that adjusts the amount of flash based on your camera's metering system.

Remote Wireless Capabilities

The Canon 430EX Speedlight can be used as a wireless "slave" unit in multiple flash photography settings. Slave flash units are controlled by a "master" unit like the Canon 580EX or the Speedlight Transmitter ST-E2. This allows the Canon 430EX to be placed in various parts of the room you are photographing to add light to certain areas. This feature extends creative control, allowing the photographer to add light and the freedom to move around.

Adjustable Flash Head

The flash head on the Canon 430EX can be tilted towards the ceiling when shooting in the horizontal position, and rotated towards the ceiling when shooting in the vertical position. Having the ability to rotate the flash head allows the photographer to bounce light off of the ceiling, creating a more natural-looking picture compared to direct light from the flash that produces harsh shadows behind your subjects.

Zoom Coverage

The Canon 430EX Speedlight will automatically adjust the flash to match the focal length of the lens being used on the camera. The flash head will cover a focal length of 24mm to 105mm. There is an integrated diffuser panel built into the flash head that the photographer manually pulls out that will extend the flash coverage of the Canon 430EX to 14mm.
