Sync Outlook Windows Mobile Wireless

Syncing Outlook with an Exchange server via Windows Mobile is possible using a wireless connection. The ActiveSync utility included with Windows Mobile allows your device to connect an Exchange server, which can keep your calendar events, contact list, emails and tasks updated across multiple devices, including your phone. Any changes made on the Exchange server are reflected in Outlook for Windows Mobile, and any changes made on your phone are also reflected on the server. These features let you keep in touch with the office, even when you are away.

Instructions

1. Open ActiveSync on your Windows Mobile phone. It is found in the "Start" menu.

2. Select the "set up your device to sync with it" link located on the ActiveSync welcome page.

3. Type the Outlook Exchange email address you want to sync in the "Enter Email Address" window. Be sure to include your email address domain as well. The address should be in the format name@company.com. Press the "Next" softkey after typing the email address.

4. Type your Exchange server address in the "Edit Server Settings" window. This is usually in the format mail.company.com, although the exact format of the address is dependent on Exchange server configuration. This address is the same one that is used when accessing Outlook Web Access on a computer.

5. Check the box to allow secure sockets layer (SSL) connections if they are required by your server. Contact the system administrator if you are uncertain. Press the "Next" softkey.

6. Verify the user name displayed on the "User Information" screen. Type your password and server domain in the appropriate fields on the same page. The server domain is the middle portion of your Exchange server's address. For example, if your server address is mail.company.com, the domain is simply "company." Press the "Next" softkey after entering the details.

7. Select the data types you want to sync between Exchange server and Windows Mobile Outlook. ActiveSync can keep your contacts, calendar, email and tasks updated.

8. Press the "Menu" softkey after highlighting "E-mail" and choose "Settings" to customize the size of downloaded email messages. Smaller sizes reduce mobile data use, which can save money if you pay on a per-kilobyte or per-megabyte basis.

9. Press the "Finish" softkey to sync Outlook with your Windows Mobile device via ActiveSync.
