Recycle Tv Glass In Michigan

TV glass can be melted or crushed and used for new glass or as a gravel replacement.

Television glass often has a coating, or is melded with a layer of another material, that makes it impractical for recycling with traditional glass recycling such as bottles and jars. However, Michigan has extensive recycling programs, including many that accept TVs and TV glass for recycling. There are also some stores that accept electronics if the TV is still intact.

Instructions

1. Drop off whole televisions at a retail store that accepts electronics for recycling. Retailers such as Best Buy, Dell computers and Office Depot are examples of some national brands that accept electronics, though they may only take a television if the unit is unbroken. Dell charges $10 for recycling items it did not produce.

2. Call your local recycling center for information on curbside pickup and drop off locations. For a few of the major Michigan cities, Kent County Materials Recovery Facility can be reached at (616) 336-2570, City of Ann Arbor drop off site is (734) 971-7400, and College Hunks Hauling Junk near Detroit can be telephoned at 1 (800) Junk-USA. For curbside recycling, put the TV or TV glass next to your regular recycling bin unless instructed otherwise, and it will be picked up with the recycling. Otherwise, drop off the TV or TV glass at a recycling center.

3. Call 1 (800) Clean-Up for Earth911's listings of electronics and traditional recycling centers near you if you live elsewhere in Michigan.

4. Donate working TVs to non-profits, thrift stores, and homeless shelters. Hospitals and clinics can often use even old TVs, although they often require working remotes.
